Ahh, The Complete Calvin and Hobbes, this is a page from that wonderful treasury. A nice treat: it has all the watercolor art that Waterson did throughout all the treasuries.

Calvin & Hobbes was the best comic strip ever. It can never be outdone. Period.

I strongly suspect you are correct. When the “Complete” collection came out, the Washington Post ran a good article capturing the spirit of the strip.
