This is the “Pancake Savior”. (via Airbag.)
Wikipedia’s article about Opus the Penguin is further evidence for why this type of encyclopedia genre interests me so much:
…on several occasions, his “fanny” has fallen off (often with a clanking sound on the floor), and he has also had instances where his nose droops or is taken completely off as a result of sneezing while using dental floss and so on. Sometimes these are combined; he has had either his nose and rear end fall off, or his nose droop while his rear end has fallen off, and so on. He eventually learned that his navel was in fact the screw that attached his rear end to his body.
Aaaaand xkcd: “Instead of office chair package contained bobcat.” Don’t forget to hover over images for helpful tooltip captions, generally further explicating the joke or extending the humor.
In the past five years or so, I have experienced a recurrent and surprisingly urgent need to “figure it out.” It must be that the changing scenery and conditions of my young life cause me to attempt to assure myself I’m on the “right” path. As a result, I’ve taken a simultaneous keen yet shallow interest in philosophy: as if a cursory overview of the topic would yield the viewpoint for which I search. The Weepies sing that, perhaps, “this is not your year.” However, if I was to take guidance on life from media, it would not be that particular song (great though it may be). I would, in fact, take inspiration from the most profound (and, incidentally, most existential) comic I have ever read. That would be this strip of Zippy the Pinhead published on my Mom’s birthday, the 16th of September:
Great comic: “man it’s great to be able to fly!” It actually took me a while to figure out the location of the scene… I doubt you’ll have the same problem.
This Penny Arcade comic is something I’ve been searching for for a while (how do I get that double “for” out of that sentence?). Anyhow, it summarizes how internet commenting boards make people into completely offensive, babbling retards. It’s completely true.
… this must be what it’s like to be a COLLEGE GRADUATE!!
Joe Mathlete Explains Today’s Marmaduke - Since Marmaduke is essentially the anti-Calvin and Hobbes … you get websites like this. Writes the author on why he doesn’t even attempt to ridicule the Sunday strips:
Ahh, The Complete Calvin and Hobbes, this is a page from that wonderful treasury. A nice treat: it has all the watercolor art that Waterson did throughout all the treasuries.
Hotel room that looks like a drawing - What they did was outline all the corners in thin black lines, giving the appearance that the room is a comic book sketch. Unbelivably convincing illusion.
Snake and phone - This is, to me, the essence of hilarity. Thank you, Natalie Dee.
Wondermark, a great comic from last week’s Onion - A bit of the graphical feel of Married to the Sea, with a more traditional panel layout for the strips.
Wondermark is a funny comic.
Calvin and Hobbes - More! - Look at this: the Calvin and Hobbes on my birthday in 1993. Just start messing around with the dates in the URL, and you can find quite a few comics in this link. With a name like “transmogrifier.org,” that’s not surprising. A rather hidden archive of Calvin and Hobbes.
The Complete Calvin and Hobbes - I’ve been waiting for this for a long long time. I just may purchase. This is the most beautiful comic strip (taking beauty in many ways) that I have ever had the privilege of seeing.
Calvin and Hobbes - back in the paper for a limited time!
