This is the last time I took a picture of a sunset from my room in Cretin 500.
Two days ago, I moved out of my home for the past three years: Cretin Hall, Room 500. I moved in to this unique room during the second month of my freshman year of college. After four weeks of rooming with someone I had absolutely nothing in common with, I finally cajoled residence life into giving me the key to the vacant single on the top floor of my 1890’s dorm.
Oh, even better. The Kid Next Door is now singing in falsetto along with the song “Time’s A Wastin’” by June Cash and Carl Smith. The lyrics can be found on CowboyLyrics.com:
The cakes no good if you don’t mix the batter and bake it

Times a wastin
As I write this, the kid who lives next to me is singing along to a polka. It’s a long but very uptempo tune. He’s really getting into it; I can hear him through the wall quite well. He also laughs quite a bit when there is no one else in his room. At least he is happy.
Dorm life can be very surreal.

Today is the day that prospective students tour the dorms at St. Thomas; so, we have done our best to get the building ready for all the visitors: taking shoes out of the hall, removing trash, cleaning up rooms for tours. The whole idea is for Cretin to put its best foot forward to those who might be living here some time soon.

For some reason, this picture makes me laugh. I see a first-person video with a bike as the protagonist in the works.
The Cretin bathroom has four toilets: 2 urinals and 2 stalls. In the years past, people doing urinal-type activities in the stalls was not a problem: people flushed. This year, however, has been different. I noticed an unusual change: somebody was following the “if it’s yellow, let it mellow” policy. While this can “reduce your total household water usage by 20 - 25% if moderately applied” (source: 7th Generation), I sincerely doubt that the mystery mellower came from some water-starved desert area. Regardless, today I found out who was perpetrating this moderately smelly and unpleasant act.
