Dan McKeown

Oh those crazy Germans and their not wanting to get the black plague.

John T F Larson

Well, it worked, didn't it.

Dan McKeown

Did it John? I am not so sure the covers on the beer stopped the plague.

Caley

Is that how stein covers originated? I had no idea…

Alexander Micek

That is indeed how the stein covers originated. Not a bad idea … but not at all effective. Regardless, congrats to humanity for making it through the Black Plague!

John T F Larson

I'm pretty sure that the covers were fairly effective at stopping the spread of the plague in their beer. The only problem is that the plague still spread easily through; poor sanitation, poor sewage/waste disposal systems, rat infestations/flees and overall poor living conditions. But the stein worked great!

and they looked nice too, and if the Germans are anything they are fashionable.

Alexander Micek

What I want to know is why there is no input from Nils, who is currently a-traveling in Germany. Hello?

John T F Larson

Dan, that is incorrect, if the Germans are anything, they are cruelly efficient.
