Scrubs

Strict dress code at the U of M School of Dentistry: wear scrubs or business casual; no jeans, hats, torn clothing, etc. Now that scrubs have arrived, no one is wearing business casual anymore. Mine were back-ordered, but finally came in, so today was my first day wearing the standard outfit for the next four years. It’s a little surreal because:

  1. I’m so much more comfortable.
  2. I do not feel qualified at all to be wearing these.
  3. If someone drops over from a heart attack on the bus, everyone will assume I can help.
  4. Saying “I’m just studying teeth” won’t help that situation at all.
  5. The scrubs are navy, for those who are curious.
  6. Yes, I can post pictures at some point.
  7. This is list item number 7.
  8. Lists are fun.

Guess where I was today! Moos tower. On the ortho floor AND in the SOD simulation clinics. Holy moly are those things amazing! My favorite part? The vending machine filled with plastic teeth. Does your station have your name and a little picture of you on it? I only made it to the “J”s before my guide, Brent Larson, took me away :( Did you know those stations were like $15,000 a piece and the ones in the smaller simulation clinic were $70,000? You could sell a few on the blackmarket and buy a house! Haha…crazytown.

Gosh, I didn’t know they cost that much, but after looking at my tuition bills, I guess I’m not surprised! Yep, the lab you were in with the names is the preclinical lab; that’s where we wax and work on our skills through the end of second year. The simulation clinical is pretty awesome, indeed - we rotate through that for the first time this semester!

We’re told it’s the best training lab in the nation, simply because it’s the newest and therefore state of the art.

I love scrubs! I was a nursing assistant for awhile and I word scrubs and people assumed I was a nurse all the time. (BTW-They assume you are a doctor cause you are a man, me a nurse as a woman! Silly world!)

Anyways, I still wear scrubs often because of their incredible comfort! But I was warned when I started wearing them to not get elastic ones because being too comfortable in stretchy waistlines was dangerous.
