George Winston’s Newest Album is very good

I’m writing this article as I am listening to RealAudio clips of George Winston’s newest CD. Having heard a lot of his work, I am happy to say this album lives up to the high quality of Winston’s piano playing. I’ll let Windham Hill do the talking:

George Winston returns with Plains: Limited Edition, his first studio album featuring newly recorded compositions in over 5 years! Plains: Limited Edition captures the beauty and wilderness of George’s home state, Montana. The album features George’s rendition of Garth Brook’s hit “The Dance”, Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel”, and Dubuque, PLUS 2 bonus tracks: Sasse (Sassy) and Muliwai for a total of 16 tracks. These Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar tracks are only available on Plains: Limited Edition.

Also, George has some things to say about the development of the album:

When PLAINS took on a life of its own, I began drawing on my childhood memories of Montana, as well as my feelings now,” In many ways, even on my earlier albums with the season themes, the plains are a deep inspiration for everything I do.

Sounds like some pretty good stuff doesn’t it? I’d say so. Having enjoyed all of his other albums, especially Summer, I am confident this is another great album. You can bet I’ll be out at Best Buy as soon as possible grabbing a copy. I’m very excited to hear all of the tracks. Of course, solo piano music isn’t for everybody and you may not like it. I would say that is your loss, especially in the case of such a great pianist as George Winston.
