Interesting Points

Ok, first there was a 52 out of 58 on the test. Ridiculous. Anyways, got another point back for an essay detail, and another point of extra credit. This makes 54 out of 58 on the test. Acceptable, but still 4 points missing in the class. For an A+ one needs a 99%; more specifically a 98.5% rounds up. Taking the next test to be around 50 points and the next portfolio check to be 20 points … and taking the current points possible to be 78, let’s see … that’s a 94.87% right now. That’s not good enough. Now is not the time to elaborate why. However, at least two more tests means 100 more points (assuming perfects on both tests: a dangerous assumption) and two more portfolio checks for 40 points. Theoretically making 218 points possible - but wait there’s more! A debate is in there as well making 268 points possible. No points missed and there is 214 outta 218 or 98.17%. Sh*t! Hmm, let’s take one point of extra credit per week remaining in this term - that’s five points. That would be 219 out of 218 for the term; a solid 100.46% for the term. That’s more like it. Why is it that there is no room for error? Well here’s what we can hope for; a perfect debate and another 4 points total missed on the remaining tests; I believe that is resonable. Therefore, 210 out of 218 plus 5 points extra credit = 215 outta 218 or 98.62% - that’s not bad! Here’s hoping for a ten point random extra credit assignment because I will jump through some major hoops for this grade. Don’t ask why. :)

Glad we got that cleared up; playing around with the points is almost the only thing that makes me feel better. Anyways, on a lighter note I saw Harry Potter and Die Another Day this past Thanksgiving weekend. We should have had one week off. Oh well. Stupid ISD 833.

Sometimes all a person needs is for someone to be there. There is nothing better than doing one’s homework and looking over and seeing someone you really care about lying there asleep, waiting for you to finish. Of course, she didn’t know that while she was sleeping I was staring at her with a little smile on my face; I think I’ll keep that a secret. If you see her, don’t tell her, OK? Suffice to say, she is quite an amazing friend. I am Thankful for her.

God bless today.

PolySci

Just sitting here, reading about some founding fathers from Connecticut. Its research, and it goes with some other stuff whereby I learn about out country and my place in it. Truth told, Political Science never really interested me; I guess I consider myself to be informed enough about the things I want to know about - and I don’t worry about other aspects of government. This, of course, is a good to excuse to declare boredom during second period; I’ll try and avoid that. Anyways, go see this page and you will learn sutff that is good for you. Connecticut compromise? You know it’s important. More later.

Ethic of Work

I just can’t get working. Thus, I sit here and try and convince myself of the merits of doing school work. This whole coming home from school do work in the evening thing has got to go. That must be nice about college, being able to get work done in the middle of the day. Looking forward to it.

Null Bits

So that’s it, one term of school down. There were some unforseen complications in the whole Marty-400-CD operation. First, Marty will probably not be around this weekend. Second, how to derive titles from CD’s that have an entire album, but them some acoustic cuts at the end - will CDDB or freedb recognize these cds? Doubtful. What to do about titles then. Additionally, I discovered that these MP3’s need to be burned at about 192 kbps in order for the CDP-CX455 to seek through the seconds with some amount of efficiency; should I burn at 128 anyways, and disregard seek issues? I think maybe the 192 will go only on the dance tracks - those can always use some seeking.

A diagram of MP3 ID3 tagging.

On top of all this, the ID3 tags need to be version 1, which is not all that hard. However, there is a catch. Winamp, Justin’s program (unfortunately), and other programs, insert non-null fields into the ID3 tags, in order to fill space after artist, title, etc. The Sony CX455 interprets these as spaces. When one only has 13 characters to display at a time, watching the blank space scroll until one reaches the next part of the tag is a little nerve racking. Thankfully, there is a solution. Other programs complete the ID3 tag using null fields, as they should. The player displays these tags correctly, leaving out the spaces, and making reading the tag much easier. This is a must for large collections of MP3’s. Only problem is, we gotta find an ID3 tagger that will integrate or replace the currect program that will insert these null fields correctly. Consequently, the search continues. On a brighter note, I haven’t heard anything from Justin yet, and in this case no news is good news. Perhaps this will still work out. I’m still working on a plan “B”. This plan has the potential to be far more time consuming and frusterating - thus I am in favor of plan A. Maybe I’ll go call Justin now.

DDR

Yeah, so “Dub I Dub”, one of the songs from DDR really rocks. Only problem is, these new speakers not only move insane amounts of air around, but each has a ten (8?) inch specially treated woofer pointing straight down at the floor. Suffice to say, it causes some issues when people are on the floor below, as not only does the constant booming get annoying, but light fixtures and the like begin to rattle.

So I think I will begin to learn a little DDR - there are priorities, such as Marty’s music, that definitely are more important than this game - but I’m really bad at it and that irks me. I should have stayed after for clay-club. Dangit I missed out. I’ll ahve to make those mugs another day I guess. That’s another thing that I need to be better at - throwing potery on the wheel.

Yay

We’re gonna get it! We’re gonna go buy the CDP-CX455! I can’t believe it. Maybe Justin will help me with something I have to do. Maybe not. But we can all benefit from this thing. I’ll ask him sometime. I’ll keep ya posted.

How about today?

Ok! Maybe we’ll ask the parents today! I hope so. The sooner the better, then you all can start hearing about the music i’ll be buying. And there is so much music to buy.

CDP CX-455

Let’s see:

Perhaps listing this stuff on here jinx’s it. We’ll find out soon; like within hours. (!)

Away message

To paraphrase someone’s away message:

“jason - ‘I bought stock for 77 dollars a share, and now its worth 33 cents. What to do?
my answer - get smarter?”

Well, Justin would never do that. Quite!

If only it was implementable

Word processors have spell check, grammar check, format check, tables, columns, lists, bullets, pre-formatted letters, business letters, templates, invitations, clip art, drawing tools, picture manipulation features, and the average computer user could go on and on about them. However, they need one thing. Wouldn’t life be easier if one could hit a button and have the computer analyze the flow of the ideas in the document, and tell the user where their writing went wrong? The button would be called:
Thought check.
