Snow Shed
April 14, and this is how our backyard looks. April 14! C’mon, spring.

There wasn’t yet any natural snow on the ground up in Lutsen, but they were working on the snow machines, so the sidewalks had a nice coating of faux snow.
Our first snow of the season began before noon today. Though the accumulation isn’t expected to stick around, such facts are of little help when you’ve somewhere to be. So, just like I did last season, I pumped up my Nokian Hakkapeliitta W240 tungsten carbide-studded snow tires and began my commute to the gym.
We walked to the local café and watched the snow fall and the cars get stuck in it.
A few days ago, they had some record cold up in northern Minnesota. In late April — coldest day on record — something like 28°F for the high. This morning, I was taking out the trash (had to get the place looking presentable for our plumber visit), and it was SNOWING! On May 2nd!
Every day, for the next 10 days, there is a chance of rain. Average chance of rain: about 40%. Man oh man, if it keeps up like this, we’ll have feet of snow on the ground by Christmas. This is a good thing.
It’s snowing this morning. April Fool’s!
Oh, wait…
Still isn’t quite spring yet.
Didn’t quite get the focus I was looking for, but these droplets looked neat against the snowy backdrop.
The view from my apartment - 3 inches of snow on Friday, December 21!
With blizzard-like conditions, sub-zero windchills, 1/4 mile visibility, and 2-4 inches of snow forecast, we’ve got the recipe for a tasty pre-winter weather treat! Unfortunately, the weather outside is frightful because some people still have some place to go. For example: Mykala is alone in Saint Paul waiting to pick her parents up from the airport. They’ve been delayed and rerouted to Iowa — I hope everything works out A-O.K. In the meantime, I’ll be here wrapping presents, thinking about taking an indoor run, and eagerly anticipating Christmas tomorrow. Perhaps Mykala and I will even play a digital game of Scrabble in which she’ll spell auditors on a triple word score with a 50 point bonus for using all 7 letters. We will see.
