Sunset Room

Sunset Room

We snuck into Selby Hall during the final construction stages - looks like it will be a glorious and wonderful place to live.

Happiness

Happiness

Foam, Foam, Dance

While my titles could be improved, this one is undeniably accurate, especially on closer inspection of the following material. First off, since I always miss it or can never remember it, today was the first day the grass looked green and there were visible buds on the trees. Yes, this means spring, or at least it’s flowery foundations, is (are?) firmly upon us. Looks like Monday the 18th (with a projected high of 71) will be our top day in the next 10. I will be rollerblading on that day, yes I will (and hope for company).

Cheque’ing In

Some of you would prefer incremental updates to these large ones (cough Nils, cough) and that’s completely OK, but that just does not seem to be happening right now. I’ve been away from my main computer for about 10 days now, which means I had to sync up a bunch of phone pictures and other householdy type things in order to get up to speed again. There are many journal-like life things to mention, though, right now. I will proceed with your permission.

Removing Computer Infections: Look2Me adware & Qoologic trojan | A tumbledry guide to protecting yourself from Internet Explorer

Now Mykala said that I was posting this simply to say “look at me, I fixed her computer lalala I am amazing …” However, I am not posting the following log of an actual conversation of an OnStar … shoot wait no it’s not one of those weird commercials … this is a real world example of the badness and goodness of the internet. You see, Mykala’s computer was rather thoroughly infected by some guitar tabbing sites visited through internet explorer. I record the following technical details to help anyone facing a similar situation. First, if you use Internet Explorer, you have to understand that it is so useful for online banking and Outlook Express (what St. Thomas uses) because it is tightly integrated to a core operating system technology called ActiveX (an oversimplification, true). ActiveX, when exploited, gives hackers the ability to install programs on your computer without your consent or knownledge. Answer number (3) on this website will help you safeguard internet explorer from running thing it should not.

Christmas Day Dreams

This much can be said for break so far: my dreams are getting more interesting. Just this Christmas morning I dreamt I was the leader of an archeological team in the 1930s which was excavating an unopened tomb; we were attempting to remove all the precious objects before being killed by a rebel team. Let me tell you, you think the insides of an Egyptian tomb are creepy in pictures - try being pursued by villains through the columned rooms of the darkest, scariest, most randomly shifting burial ruins that your mind can come up with. Suffice to say, I really was quite awake this morning even though all our presents were opened the evening before.

DDR Extreme

A week or something ago (time is fuzzy lately), John hosted a great DDR Extreme party in which we all got together and played the new game. I am rusty since last year, but it felt good to play just a bit. Ping pong, pizza, dancing, sweating, laughing, they all came together for an excellent Friday night. I owe Mykala quite a bit, she gave me a ride there, and stayed to play. She played! DDR! That was, suffice to say, really cool.

The District Sleeps Alone Tonight

Ummmmmmmmmmmm. Umm. Ummm! Ummm? Ummmmmm. Hum. Erm. Barrrrgh. Edet. Deeee bop. Burrrrr? These are the sounds of me debating whether to start a hidden version of this site, one where I share everything that is on my mind in a completely straightforward no-nonsense manner. In reality, it would not be that hard, I would take the current “life” posts and any future ones, and password-protect their viewing. Any hard-core hackers who really did want my personal logs could probably force their way in, and that wouldn’t particularly bother me; I wouldn’t post social security numbers or my current location via GPS coordinates. But really, Erin made a great argument for journals: they help you clarify your thoughts and realize what you are really thinking. Thing is, the front page of this site really used to be traffic-free: no one visited. Now, traffic has certainly increased, but it’s more that people I know visit. One possible option could be to wait for the people I know to get bored with visiting and then I could resume personal details. However, I do feel I could be more honest about my life if I knew that everything I said would not escape the confines of the digital realm.
