Flu

We all had the stomach flu for the entire long weekend. I didn’t get healthy as fast as I expected, and the lingering aches made my health feel mutable in a way it never has.

Grammys Unseen

Mykala and I participate in what we call “awards season” during the dark days of late mid-winter where on Sunday nights there are Hollywood and entertainment industry awards shows. It would be more aptly called “have some fun toaster-oven food and watch parts of a live event while reading.” The latter description has been accurate for a few years. This year, however, was quite a bit different. The Grammy Awards were on, Ess was in her Björn, and we had finished up “Grammy Pancakes” (see, gold records look like pancakes!). Poor little girl had just blown out a diaper and gotten a bath, and was looking adorable in her fresh, clean jammies. Mykala tuned into what can only be called a “momstinct” or a premonition, and was cuddling Ess particularly closely when our little baby girl started making sounds we hadn’t heard her make before.

Lottery Giving

“All the money in the world can’t buy your health,” he said.

Then, he and his wife gave away the $11.2 milion they had just won playing the lottery.

Wi-Fi Safety

Common sense and a little physics seem to show that the radio waves from Wi-Fi internet connections (non-ionising as they are) are nothing to be concerned about:

A typical UK resident receives far more radiation from analogue radio broadcasts than they do from Wi-Fi. Speaking of tough times, I’ve been absent yet again not for scholastic reasons but for health reasons. I got a virus that absolutely clotheslined me. I hope you didn’t contract anything like it. And if I’ve seen you recently, I hope I didn’t give this sickness to you.

The War Over Salt

The War Over Salt - Via kottke.org a couple weeks back, I couldn’t pass up passing this link on the ridiculous amounts of salt americans consume and the consequences of trying to reign big food conglomerate’s use of the substance.

Americans Are Not Healthy

Americans Are Not Healthy - This study found that Americans are quite sick, when compared to other industrialized nations. Now, I was doubtful, but check out all the variables they statistically corrected for: “when you compare like groups in the US and the UK, people in the US are considerably sicker than their counterparts in the UK. This is after factors such as age, race, income, education and gender were taken into consideration. The most startling conclusion was that although the richest Americans were better off than the poorest Americans, they did no better (health-wise) than the poorest of the English.”
