So, Emily and Nick very kindly got us tickets to the Blenders’ holiday show. We went there on a couples date, and stopped at Hen House for brunch beforehand. I was waiting at the table while Mykala waited at the door for Emily and Nick to park their car in the downtown Minneapolis maze. While sitting there, I noticed the nice logo of the restaurant, and being a very new iPhone owner, I thought it was super cool to be able to attach this picture to a text message and send it along. I clearly did not think this through all the way, because Mykala later pointed out how incredibly rude it was to send a picture of nice hot coffee while our friends froze in the outdoors trying to park. I regret the error.

Iceland got used, in the bad years, to receiving tumid little lectures from outsiders on how such simple people allowed themselves to get caught up in a big, bad world beyond their ken—though the truth is that, while Iceland obviously did silly things with banks, they were the same kind of silly things with banks that the masters of civilization were doing in downtown Manhattan. The big difference was that the Icelanders switched gears faster and got over it sooner and, for good measure, put some of their bankers in jail.
It’s raining and there’s some fall chill in the air. I just got back from getting Mykala a pumpkin soy latté and now we’re going to have a nice hot breakfast.
I couldn’t live somewhere without season changes like this.

Winner of “Best Barista” and “Best Coffee Shop” in the Twin Cities in 2009. We’re going! As soon as I get these boards taken next week.
Lokesh Dhakar has illustrated a bunch of common coffee drinks. A resource like this is very handy for those who do not know what coffee drinks are (like me).
Cold brewed coffee - Apparently, this type of coffee is absolutely delicious because it doesn’t have the undesirable side effects that occur when you expose coffee to boiling water. The process reduces the need for cream and sugar to almost nill. The recipe:
An Islamic bank is the majority owner of the Caribou Coffee chain: true! - This actually kind of makes sense, this Islam bank has about an 88% stake in the company… and it makes sense, because Wikipedia tells me that coffee became popular in Islamic countries with the ban of alcohol by the Shari’ah.
Espresso art - Intricate pictures in the foam atop the popular coffee drink.
Starbucks put in a vending machine on our campus, which serves up hot cans of their drinks (for $2.50 per serving). We’re not sure how they heat up the can … my guess is the plastic ends and wrapper are put on afterwards (the can is just like an aluminum soup can).
