Achingly beautiful

I’m frequently looking for songs to play that can be described as achingly beautiful. Thankfully, I’ve the perfect example of that today. It’s a song by José González from his 2007 album In Our Nature called Fold.

You could always try anything by Sigur Ros. And that is a near-serious, almost-literal “anything.” Or you could try “Hold Time” by M. Ward or “Your Arms Around Me” by Jens Lekman. Those are two that immediately come to mind. I’m also on a lifelong quest to find achingly beautiful songs. Songs so precious and sweet and delicate and full of longing that it almost hurts to listen to them. We should sit down with a set of speakers and compare lists sometime, Alex.

Thanks for the suggestions, Mr. Nils. I’ll have to give those a go! Once I get my receiver fixed, I think a listening session would definitely be in order. It is important to me to give the songs the fidelity they deserve, and I can’t do that right now… :(

Anyhow, I’m currently listening to “Viðrar vel til loftárása” from Sigur Rós’s album Ágætis byrjun (“A Good Beginning”). Your suggestion on that band was really good… so I’m looking forward to checking out the others.
