Apparently, Henry Royce’s fireplace mantle read thusly:
QUIDVIS RECTE FACTUM QUAMVIS HUMILE PRAECLARUM
The translation is: “Whatever is rightly done, however humble, is noble.”
I’m going to have to quote John Gruber quoting Annie Dillard, just because this is so good:
“If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair. We’d never have a friendship. We’d never go into business, because we’d be too cynical. Well, that’s nonsense. You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down.”
If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus; and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.
