New York Magazine asks, What Was the Hipster?

Above all, the post-2004 hipster could be identified by one stylistic marker that transcended fashion to be something as fundamental as a cultural password: jeans that were tight to the calves and ankles. As much as I’ve investigated this, I can’t say I understand the origin of the skinny jean. Why, of many candidates for fashion statements, did it become ubiquitous?

Mr. Yoder’s initiation to his new subject was unceremonious. He showed up with a few cameras, and, standing in the middle of the fray backstage at his first show, suddenly realized he was in a room full of mostly naked women. He panicked, thinking that he was in a lot of trouble.

From the “Fashion and Style” section of the New York Times comes an interesting article about… fashion: “Admit It. You Love It. It Matters.” Ostensibly, it’s an article justifying the very existence of this section of the Times. Ridiculously talented model/fashion photographer - Most pictures on flickr try to emulate a certain style, and almost always you’ll see parts of them that simply look strange. They are, after all, snapshots. These pictures, though … the lighting is absolute perfection.
