Desperado

Album: Desperado (1973). Artist: Eagles. Lyrics: Don Henley & Glen Frey.

Desperado, why don’t you come to your senses?
You been out ridin’ fences for so long now.
Oh, you’re a hard one,
but I know that you’ve got your reasons.
These things that are pleasin’ you
can hurt you somehow.

Don’t you draw the queen of diamonds, boy!
She’ll beat you, if she’s able.
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet.
Now it seems to me some fine things
have been laid upon your table,
but you only want the ones that you can’t get.

Desperado, ah, you ain’t gettin’ no younger.
Your pain and your hunger, they’re drivin’ you home.
Freedom, oh, freedom. That’s just some people talkin’
You’re a prisoner walking through this world all alone.

Don’t your feet get cold in the wintertime?
The sky won’t snow and the sun won’t shine.
It’s hard to tell the nighttime from the day.
You’re losin’ all your highs and lows.
Ain’t it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don’t you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate.
It may be rainin’ , but there’s a rainbow above you.
You better let somebody love you
You better let somebody love you
before it’s too late.

Haiku

Amazing, there’s a society for everything isn’t there. The Haiku Society of America has the winners of it’s annual haiku contest since 1976 posted. It’s surprising to see websites with a history. There are, of course, encyclopedias online that cover content over a huge span of years; but websites that post content gathered by an organization exisiting before the 90s still surprises a person. A leader of the internet design and standards community, Jeffrey Zeldman, has been running his site for sometime: “Web design information and entertainment since 1995”. 1995 being quite old in internet years, but still not particularly aged. After all, many of us drive cars older than that. The depth of content in small personal sites (that are maintained) will be interesting as decades start to pass. Additionally, the usefulness of databases and the languages used to extract content from them may be determined largely by their ability to stand the test of time, or at least their friendliness towards forward-compatibility. Finally, although content from the past can be interesting, nobody wishes to read about teen angst from some 10-year-old blog. Clean up when you are done with your website(s)! Oh, and do visit the Haiku website, bet you didn’t click it before!

Of Course

‘man, humans are so damn strange sometimes.’ - from waferbaby.com. Maybe it’s cheating to use an excerpt from somebody else’s weblog, but the opportunity couldn’t be passed up.

Cleared Up

Everything is falling into place, and the website should be done before school resumes. Left to do: meta tags so the site will be seen by search engine crawlers, a ‘fine tuning’ of the frontpage, one more feature on the administration file, and then grow it. Unfortunately, the redesign itch is happening again - the site will just have to stay ‘as is’ until enough free time is carved out for a re-design to take place. These designs turn over far too frequently - perhaps something can be mapped out on paper with the help of some design books and the resulting project would stick longer than this one has. Thanks for [your] patience.

One Piece of Advice

Everybody is truly Good at Something. Always remember this. Keep an open mind when you encounter strangers or even people you know well. Especially people you know well. It’s not possible to know everything about somebody. People will always surprise you.

Car Blues - A Limerick

A new car is desperately needed.
An Acura Integra is seeded
in the minds of the young
But teach them their tongue
Should be kept in rude mouths for feedin’

Ads can be fun, too.
