While we’re pointing out typos… “RA’s” is possessive. I think you want “RAs.” But yeah, the lady RAs really should go ahead and do all the door decs. Though Dan and I put up some winners in our time. And then once, I gave him a Freudian slip.
KeyCue - Now this is brilliant: an application that shows you all the keyboard shortcuts for your current application. It’s like a little training program to help you use your computer faster … no more searching for shortcuts.
I was there when that picture was taken!
Everyone, know this: The young man in that picture will give you free ice cream if you help him with his homework! This is a fact.
Sincerely, Dan
I wish I was a Kaiser. Like Wilhelm the First. Or the Second. Was there a Wilhelm the Second? Hmmmm…….. Wikipedia, here I come.
Sounds like a deal to me.
I don’t know Alex, the tree is slightly out of focus, unlike your usual stuff. You might have wanted to use a longer lens and a longer focal distance. That would have increased the plane of focus while making a flatter composition overall (then it would really look like a sign coming out of the tree!). I’m loving the greens, though. Spring is pretty great.
Look! My history degree is not a complete waste of time! I know the answer Nils. There was indeed a Kaiser Wilhelm II, he was the ruler of the “First Reich” during World War I as the last ruler of both Prussia and the German Empire. I doubt, however, that you would want to have been him Nils as he had a deformed left arm (that he was very self-conscious about even to the point that he would turn his left side away from a camera or posing for a portrait while always holding something in his left hand to give an illusion that it was not so painfully short) from a botched birth and was often accused of mental health problems that were very evident with his short temper. His tempermental behavior was detrimental in politics and is the most likely cause for many of his political blunders and alienating potential strong political allies as well as entire nations (such as England and Japan). During World War I he became a mere figure head as he delegated more authority onto his generals and in 1918 he abdicated the throne. He would live the rest of his life in exile after having much of his furnishings and favorite personal belongings brought up to his new palace in the Netherlands. He was never brought to trial for his role in World War I because the Queen of the Netherlands refused to extradite him and he lived a rather quaint existance until 1941 when he died at the age of 81.
I doubt many of you read up to this point, but if you did, I hope you learned something.
I didn’t read it.
Oof, that’s harsh—I know how you feel, though, Dan. Take solace in your recent tutoring experience!
lol. I was hoping no one would notice that; good eye, Nils. You’ll notice the darkened trees off to the left are in focus—I had mis-set the auto-focus point on the camera (the 300D has a rather crappy 7 point focus system), and in my haste to grab the picture, forgot to reset to center. There is an option to have the camera automatically find what it thinks you’re trying to focus … but with my kit lens going a bit wonky (ok ok, it’s broken), that doesn’t work too hot. Sooo, normally I shoot with only the center autofocus point.
Someday, I’ll get a lens that works. But in the meantime, I figure I should try to get the best pictures and subject matter I can with a cheap lens—otherwise, I’ll just have really sharp, boring, amateurish pictures taken with a really nice lens. After all, the “father of 35mm photography,” Henri Cartier-Bresson, only shot with 2 unassuming lenses.
Mykala, you just took a broken bottle to my heart. I think it was an IBC Rootbeer bottle.
